Students will experience an in-depth weekend with Master teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker in November that will explore the role of the Gunas or qualities of nature, sattva, rajas and tamas, one of yoga’s most essential themes. In each class Rod will shed light on how asanas, the breath and meditation influence these subtle forces of nature. Our focus will be on practice and how it can be used to systematically address our individual needs, unfold higher potentials, and, in the process, fulfill the potential of practice. In each session, Rod will lead a dynamic and deepening practice and share the wisdom on the ancient teachings.We are thrilled to have Yogarupa as part of the training. In the spring Senior Para Yoga teacher and Ayurvedic Practitioner Kathryn Templeton MA, RDT/MT, E-RYT will guide our students through an Ayurvedic cleanse while picking up where Rod began with the Gunas.Kathryn is a Level II Certified ParaYoga Teacher. She began studying with yogarupa since his first kosha training in 2002 and is a graduate from KSA 2. She continues to study ayurveda with Dr. Claudia Welch, Dr. S...vabodha, and Dr. Lad.For 17 years Kathryn has worked as a psychotherapist in clinical settings and is currently at The Clifford Beers Clinic in the Morris A. Wessel Trauma Center for children and families developing yoga therapy programs. She also operates a small private practice, Yogafusions, using ayurveda and yoga therapy to treat a range of concerns.Kathryn lives in New Haven, CT and teaches ParaYoga on Tuesday nights. She also co-directs the 500 YTT "Deeper Practices of Yoga in the Lineage of ParaYoga" at Your Community Yoga Center in Hamden, CT. She presents across the country on a range of topics incorporating "The Three Wisdom Traditions: Yoga, Ayurveda, and Psychotherapy". In a recent e-mail she said, "In order to fully understand the aspects of yoga one must have a working knowledge of yoga's sister science, ayurveda. This "life science (ayur= life, veda= science/ knowledge) offers us understanding of how the yogi's understand the body and how to maintain health on all the various sheaths or koshas. Ayurveda is a path way to wellness and life of ease and tranquility... by having this ease of daily living and dynamic health the aspraint can then look to yoga for "self relaization". As my teacher's say, "If your knees hurt then sitting in meditation is about feeling your knees hurt. If your constipated, then yoga asana is about feeling how hard and uncomfortable your belly is not the freedom of the posture. The Yoga of sound, Nada Yoga, will be studied throughout the year and culminates in a fascinating weekend with New York City Sanskrit Scholar Manorama. The director of the School of Sanskrit Studies in NYC, Manorama leads workshops on the Path of Luminous Shabda, a path that combines Sanskrit, Meditation and Yoga philosophy. She leads workshops nationally, as well as internationally. Manorama's mix of earthy charm, deep scholarship and humorous teaching style were born from years of close study with her Guru, Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati. She is a graduate of Columbia University. In 2005, Sanskrit Studies released the acclaimed Learn to Pronounce Yoga Poses, an invaluable tool for yoga teachers & students. To learn more about Manorama go to www.sanskritstudies.org.

Asha Wolf,DPT will join us for two hands-on experiencial workshops in Bio-Mechanics. Asha holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and is a Certified Movement Analyst through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies. Since receiving her advanced yoga teacher’s training certification at the Integral Yoga Institute in New York City in 1992, Asha has been leading yoga classes and workshops regularly throughout North America, incorporating a variety of yoga styles and techniques. She currently teaches Ashtanga and other forms of yoga in Boulder, Colorado at Richard Freemans Yoga Workshop and Studio Be. Asha's teaching is grounded through her long time apprenticeship with Dr. Ranjani Cobo, who blends Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga traditions with Zen practices and Native American spirituality.

Because this is both a Yoga Teacher Training and a Yogic Life Course all I am requiring from trainees is that they have been practicing yoga for at least a year and are willing to make a serious commitment to do the practices, homework and reading assignments they are given in between sessions.
If you wish to join the training but cannot be at the first months training session, fear not. A make-up session for the first month's lessons will happen in January and is free to those who join the training late or sign up on time but cannot make the first session. Several make-up sessions will be available to those who miss other weekends at a nominal cost or the student may choose to attend the missed weekend in the following years program at no additional cost. Students who miss more than 3 sessions may be asked to make up those sessions the following year before being given a certificate of completion.
