Class Descriptions

Sadhana West is dedicated to advancing and enriching the practice of each of our students. Yoga is not a "one size fits all" practice. As a small studio we have the opportunity to get to know each student personally and help them find the practice level, modifications and adjustments necessary for their practice to truly flourish. So whether you're a brand new beginner (or returning to your practice after a long time off), and need some modifications and props to be comfortable, or an Intermediate student looking to deepen your physical or mental practice, we will guide and support you in your efforts.

If you are nervous about attending a class and would like to begin with a private lesson, our teachers are available to work with you in private. You can reach them by calling Kitty at 303-709-6243 or emailing her at info@sadhanawest.com.

OPEN CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Level 1

This level is perfect for most beginners, Advanced Beginners and those Intermediates who wish to review  proper alignment and form in standing poses and some seated and supine poses. The principles of Sun Salutations will be covered but with little or no Vinyasa between Asana. Beginner inversions and preparation poses will be taught, as well as their contraindications and modifications. Beginner Pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditations will also be taught.

Level 2

This level is great for Advanced Beginners and Intermediates looking to stretch their practice. A wide range of standing, seated and supine poses, as well as Intermediate  Inversions such as shoulderstand, headstand or handstand, may be taught in class. Meditation and pranayama will also be included in class.

All Levels

The name says it all. Everyone is welcome and all levels of practitioners will find food for their practice. Modifications will be given for the newer practitioners and more difficult variations will be offered for those who wish to stretch their practice. Fun for everyone.

Anjali Restorative

Anjali Restorative Yoga is a deeply restful practice where the practitioner is guided through meditations and thoughtful visualizations while the body is held and supported by bolsters, pillows and blankets.  By resting deeply, the body engages its natural ability to heal and rest.  The effect is profoundly nurturing, thoughtful and blancing. Yum!  A wonderful class for everyone.

SIX WEEK COURSES:

Beginner 1

This course is designed for brand new beginners but contains a great deal of information that will interest all practitioners. These first few weeks are all about letting go. Releasing tension in the back and hips, lengthening the hamstrings, opening up dormant areas of the body and building internal awareness and connection. The physical practice will focus on proper alignment and form in standing poses with a few seated and supine poses. Breathing techniques will be used to expand the lung capacity, balance the breath, and connect breath to movement. Each week will have a theme related to the Yamas, the first limb of the 8 Limb Path of Yoga.

Beginner 2

This  course builds on the foundation of Beginner 1. Sun salutations and beginner inversions and preparations will be added to the practice. We will build core strength and awareness and expand our repertoire of asana, pranayama and meditations.  Great for all beginners or  anyone who would  like to take some time  building the foundation of their practice. Each week will have a theme related to the Niyamas, the 2nd limb of the 8 Limb Path of Yoga.
